A Short and Tragic Story

The title is self explanatory. Any more will just reveal it all.

THUD.

"Katie, What's that noise?"

"It's nothing, Honey. Don't worry."

THUD.

"Luke, what's going on?"

"Nothing, 

THUD.

Honey pressed her hands against her ears and huddled closer to me. I hugged her tighter, hoping to God that this would pass.

THUD.

I clutched Michael's head against my chest in an attempt to soothe him. My own heart was racing rapidly and I begged the heavens for this to stop.

THUD.

The ground shook beneath us and I hid Honey's face so she couldn't see the ceiling crack as dust streamed onto us like water poured from a jug.

THUD.

Part of the wall about a metre away from us collapsed, revealing the street outside. I feared for our lives.

THUD.

The sound of the windows shattering almost made me scream aloud.

THUD.

It was silent except for our panicked breath.
