Denias' discomfort was tangible. It weighed down like a tonne of bricks on the atmosphere and his kisses reflected it in the way that they were hesitant and short. He was also standing rigidly as if there were some kind of a wall between us.
I pulled away from one of these awfully pained kisses to ask "Denias, what's wrong?"
"Nothing," he replied, looking away quickly looking frightened and skitterish.
His seeming fear of whatever the reason behind this strange behaviour made me anxious. I was suddenly tense, on edge. "Why are you acting so awkward?"
"I'm sorry - it's just that my parents dropped big baggage on me last night."
"D'you need to talk?" I asked, gazing into his eyes imploringly.
"I can't, I'm sorry." He looked sad but that didn't cause the reaction to have less of an impact on me.
I looked away, shocked and overwhelmed by sadness.
"You ... you can't? But what does that mean, Denias? If we can't talk to each other about our problems, what does that say about our relationship? Are we ... are we still okay, Denias? I know you said your parents but ... you're really shaken up."
Denias turned back to me and took my face between his hands. "I'm sorry, Cara. I wish I could tell you, I really do, but I can't. I literally can't. The only way for you to know is to work it out yourself." He stroked my cheek. I closed my eyes for the brief duration of the touch.
"How can I do that when it could be so many things?" Tears were beginning to collect at the corners of my eyes, threatening to spill at any moment.
He looked around and leant in to whisper in my ear "Look out your window tonight."Again he stroked my cheek, causing pleasure yet in no way allaying my anxiety. He kissed it but the wonderful feel of it was almost tainted.
"What?! How's that going to help anything?" I asked despairingly. "Denias, just tell me. Tell me baby." I leant in to kiss him. Pulling back, I said "I love you. I love you." I leant in to kiss him again. The tears were flowing freely now. "Please. I can't bear to think that something's wrong."
"Please, Cara. Stop. I can't. I really can't - just trust me." He kissed me, conveying great passion and sadness.
I pulled him onto my bed, sitting down. I returned the kiss, sliding my arms around his neck. I hoped to convey my concern for him, the fact I was always there for him and my own distress to show just how worried I was about him. As the passion deepened, I pulled away briefly to say "I would pull off that ring for you, Denias."
Denias swallows and looks at the ring "Your father would no and I wouldn't want to make you do that."
"Who says you'd be making me? And my father doesn't have to know."
"He'd still know" Denias leant away slightly, almost falling back. I took advantage of his imbalance to push him down.
"How?" I whisper, slowly leaning towards him.
Denias looked almost nervous and frightened "You wouldn't be wearing your ring, that's how." His voice was almost breathless.
I was almost insulted by this comment. How careless did he think I would be?
"I'd put it back on afterwards," I said indifferently.
"But then you'd be lying."
Denias looked up at me and I noticed his trousers becoming slightly tighter. I bit back a giggle.
I sat up, pretending to look worried.
"Oh yeah, I'd forgotten that." I grimaced. "Guess I can't then." I stood up, looking at Denias. "I'm very sorry." I looked directly at the tight part of his trousers. "Sorry about your ... problem too." I turned around and sighed to myself, very deliberately.
"Cara," Denias gasped, shocked. I laughed inside.
"What?" I asked innocently, my fingers absently brushing across the surface of my desk.
"This is uncool." He looked at his problem then back at me with a pained expression.
I turned and shrugged. "Well, what can I do about it? As you said, I can't lie to my parents. That would just be - what word did you use? - uncool."
He sat up and grabbed my wrist, pulling me back to the bed and pinning me down.
I looked up at him, making my expression go sorry-looking while inside I trembled with pleasure. "Denias, come on. I've said sorry."
He pulled my ring off and kissed my neck. In the corner of my vision, I could see him placing it the ring on the side table.
"I'm fed up of rules."
I pushed him away slightly, pretending to be good. "But rules keep us safe."
"Not that damn ring." He began to kiss me passionately.
I pushed him away again, pretending to be shocked.
"Denias, there are lots of good people who wear that sort of ring. Who are we to turn our noses up at it?"
A growl rumbled in his chest. "Seriously, Cara, are you really going to tease me till we can be wed?"
I tilt my head to the side, an innocent expression on my face. "Maybe."
He kissed me wish a fiery passion that sent desirable trembles down my spine and melted my insides. Unable to resist him anymore, I returned the kiss, beginning to caress him while I continued to shiver inside.
He pulled his shirt off in haste. His chest was muscularly built, moreso than normal.
I stared in awe for a few moments before blinking and coming back to myself. Swallowing hard, I said "What's the rush, baby?"
"You have no idea how much you've teased me the years we've been together." He kissed my neck.
"Oh, I have an idea," I whispered, though my physical shiver betrayed my desire.
He evidently didn't notice the shiver as he asked "What?" He bit the skin of my jaw.
"I'm cold," I said seductively, ignoring the last thing he'd said. "Won't you heat me up?"
He pulled my shirt off and kissed my collar bone. I kissed his chest and caressed his body lightly, my fingers lingering above the button of his jeans.
He rubbed my hips in circular motion.
"I love you," he said, gasping out the words.
I undid the button then suddenly rolled over. My heart hammering in my chest, I told him "That's enough for now."
He obviously didn't understand my teasing as he looked completely shocked.
"What? We haven't even gone anywhere than normal" He looked hurt. He obviously didn't realise how damn hot he looked like this.
I continued to play my game, hoping he'd guess what I was doing.
"You're obviously not desirable enough," I said, shrugging.
Denias growled, stood up and stormed off.
I rolled over, chuckling. It shouldn't have but his misunderstanding amused me.
"Denias, baby," I called. "You know I'm teasing, right? I fully intend to have given myself to you by the end of tonight."
"I'm fed up of the teasing." Denias literally growled as he paced.
I noticed the animalistic sound he was producing. "Hey, how are you doing that?"
Suddenly his body began to shake. He walked away from me.
"D-don't c-come close." He sounded ... scared.
"D-denias?" I jumped up and followed him. "What's happening? Are you having a fit?"
Suddenly he wasn't human and a black fox with nine tails sat in his place.
I screamed, jumping back several inches.
Denias shifted back, right in front of me, gasping heavily. His clothes were hanging from him in rags.
"Now you know," he choked.
