A Lifetime Determind by the Meeting of Lips

From across the room, I heard a knock at the door. Before I was able to get up, I looked up to find a beautiful couple enter the apartment. It was early still, but nonetheless, it was New Years Eve. "Hello," spoke a gentle, seemingly transgendered boi. "Hey." I replied. His girlfriend was a cute, femme girl with a dark turquios hoodie. I admired her eyes, and then switched back to him. "My names Jessica, nice to meet you," I spoke to the boi and then continued, "Bree is just in the kitchen, making a drink. Do you want anything?" I looked at him slightly confused. I felt the connection between us instantly and wasn't sure what to make of it. "My name is Nick, and this is Hailey," he smiled gently and I spoke a low hello. As the evening continued, many more entered the small studio apartment on Parkview Ave. The crowd drank, laughed and at midnight celebrated the coming of a new year. Throughout the evening, I could not take my eyes off of Nick. There was something about him that I felt instantly attracted to. We shared a connection I had not experienced. "Nick, would you like to go for a walk while I have a cigarette?" I asked. Bree was dancing with a bunch of friends, including Nicks girlfriend. We had just been staring at each other, ignoring the rest. "Sure, just let me finish my drink," He said and smiled. I started to put on my jacket, grabbed my cigarettes and replied, "I will meet you outside." I walked out of the door and pushed my body against the wall. I looked up to the ceiling as the butterflies tickled my chest. Something about our chemistry was undeniable.  We had barely spoken all night, and yet, we both felt connected. This I was sure of. Nick exited the apartment and started to walk down the stairs. I followed. We stood outside the apartment doors for over an hour, discussing our beliefs, our experiences and our desires. In every moment, every word I could feel the tension between us build. Flashing images of our lips meeting would flood my brain for months afterwards. If only, I didn't have a girlfriend. If only, he didn't have a girlfriend. It would be us. We would be one.

jait "A nice leadup... and I love the lines "If only I didn't have a girlfriend. If only he didn't have a girlfriend. It would be us."

"...a gentle, seemingly transgendered boi..." was a little confusing for me... How does Nick seem transgendered? It had the feel of a shorthand for details I'm not familiar with.
