‘Can I help you?’ I asked simply, trying to avoid being distracted by his eyes. They were so dark and soft. It was like you could get lost in them, which is what I was doing until he spoke.
‘Tallulah Vuze?’ he asked. He was wearing the jeans and red t-shirt that I had last seen him in.
‘Yeah. What about it?’ I couldn’t help but be sarcastic with him. After all, he had been practically stalking me.
‘Can I come in?’ He’d asked so nicely, how was I meant to say no. So, in he came. I took a deep breath before closing the door behind me.
‘What do you want?’ I asked him before being rudely interrupted by my mother.
‘Tally, Hunny, who’s your new friend?’ She waltzed into the hall, wearing jeans, a low cut top and a cooking apron. It was so embarrassing.
‘Mum!’ I gave her a quick smile. ‘This is…’ I paused. What was his name?! ‘This is…’ I faltered again.
‘Ben,’ he cut in. I let out a little breath. It was quite a nice name when you think about it.
‘Yeah, this is Ben. I met him today. We’re going up to my room.’ I grabbed his wrist and led him to the stairs. I didn’t dare grab his hand, that was a bit too physical for me.
‘Nice to meet you Mrs Vuze,’ Ben said to Mum before being pulled up the stairs by me.
‘Oh, call me Sandy,’ Mum replied, as she walked back into the kitchen.
I sighed as I dragged Ben up the stairs and into my room. I closed the door behind me, as in my house no one got any privacy. ‘Now, tell me what you want? You have been popping up around places. Are you stalking me or something? Because if you are, then you are seriously disturbed!’ I slumped in my bean bag.
Ben was still standing and didn’t answer me for a few minutes. He just walked round my room, looking at things. He then turned to me. ‘I’m not stalking you, don’t worry. But someone else is.’ His smile was enchanting, it was calming. ‘I’m here to guide you.’
‘Guide me?’ I was really confused. ‘Guide me where? Last time I checked I wasn’t moving out or moving schools.’ I sat up in my bean bag. ‘Where did you come from?’
Ben sighed and sat on the floor infront of me. ‘Not from round here, let’s just put it that way. I’m from a place called New Stardam.’
‘Never heard of it.’ Which I hadn’t. ‘It sounds like it’s from another planet or something.’ I paused. ‘Hold on, how old are you?’
‘17, why?’ he asked, looking straight into my eyes. I wanted to melt right there and then.
‘I was just wondering is all.’ I needed to find out more about this boy and what he was doing here. And I don’t just mean in my house, I mean in this town, state, country.
‘Look,’ he started, but never finished.
A knock came at my door. ‘Tally? It’s me, Kyle. Your Mum let me in. Can I come in?’ Kyle started to push down the handle. My door opened before I had a chance to say anything. Kyle walked in and stopped when he saw Ben. ‘Who’re you?’
‘Hey, Kyle.’ I managed to get out. ‘This is Ben and he was just leaving, weren’t you?’ I sent a nod in Ben’s direction.
‘Yes I was,’ Ben replied. ‘Call me if you need to talk.’ He brushed past Kyle and left the room. Only then did I realise I didn’t have his number. I rushed out after him and caught him as he was walking down the garden path.
‘Hey, wait.’ I grabbed his wrist again. ‘I don’t have your number, so how can I call you?’
‘But you do have my number,’ he replied, smiling in the most gorgeous fashion.
‘How do I know I can trust you?’ I asked,. Even though I already knew what he was going to say to me next. I was still confused as to how I had his number.
‘Look inside yourself and you will find that you can trust me. Fair well my lady.’ He took my hand and kissed it. Okay, that wasn’t the answer I thought he was going to say but he was right. I did trust him. Why had he called me my lady? I wasn’t some noble or anything. Or maybe I was and that was what he came to tell me. Maybe I own a big house and lots of money left to me by my Great Grandma. Okay, maybe not, but it’s possible.
I sighed as he walked off down the path and then down the road. I have to admit he did look hot. Just then I remembered Kyle was still in my room. ‘Damn,’ I thought. I rushed up there, not taking any notice of Mum coming out and asking me questions.
When I got to my room I found the door open. Slowly, I walked in and peered round the corner. Kyle was sitting on my bed staring straight ahead. ‘Kyle?’ I asked quietly, trying not to make him jump. I wandered over to my bed and sat down beside him. ‘What’s wrong?’
Then he surprised me by saying, ‘I think I’m in love.’
‘Huh?’ was all I could say. ‘How come you’ve never mentioned this before?’
‘I’ve only just realised it.’ He sighed. ‘I think I’m in love with Lawrence.’ His face suddenly turned bright red.
‘Oh, Kyle.’ I put my arm round him. ‘It’ll be okay.’ I couldn’t think of anything else to say. I’d never had a gay friend before. But I wasn’t going to let it get in the way of our friendship.
‘I mean, I like girls and everything but there’s something about him that makes me feel good about myself.’ He paused. ‘You think I’m mad, don’t you?’
‘No, course I don’t. It’s perfectly normal for guys to feel things they’ve never felt before at this age. I read it somewhere.’ I tried to keep his hope up. This was the only thing I could do at the minute. ‘Have you talked to anyone else about this?’
‘No!’ Kyle almost jumped about a metre in the air and stood up. ‘Are you mad?! I think I’m mad!’ He then began to calm down. ‘I trust you, Tally. Ever since you moved here, you’ve been nothing but nice to me. You smiled at me in History on your first day and we’ve been mates ever since.’ He sat down again next to me. ‘Can you help me?’
He looked so sweet and cute that I had to say I would. ‘I don’t know how I can though. I’m not a guy and I don’t know what’s going on in Lawrence’s head. I don’t even know what he’s on about half the time. Kyle, how can I help you?’ I rested my hand on his arm.
‘You could try and get me into girls again.’ Kyle suggested, looking at me with hope in his eyes.
‘Okay, so what do you find most..’ I couldn’t find the word. ‘Most interesting about Lawrence?’ Yes, interesting was the word I was looking for.
‘His eyes,’ Kyle replied almost straight away.
‘Alright.’ I paused to think. Which girl in our year has nice eyes. Then it came to me. ‘Penny!’ I almost screamed. ‘Have a look at Penny’s eyes. They are the most gorgeous colour.’
Kyle raised one eyebrow at me. ‘Penny?’
‘Yes Penny.’ I replied. ‘I have a look in people’s eyes when I do their make-up. And Penny also loves the stuff you love. She also quite likes you, even though she may not show it. Penny has a secret crush on you.’
Kyle again raised his eyebrows. ‘Penny?’ he repeated.
‘Yes, Penny.’ I said again. ‘Honestly man! What am I going to do with you?!’
‘Okay, I’ll have a go tomorrow at school.’ He stood up to leave. Before he was about to leave my room. ‘If I have a go, will you promise me something?’
‘Yeah, sure, anything.’
‘Don’t trust that guy.’ Kyle looked deadly serious.
‘Why?’ I was confused. ‘Do you know him or something?’
‘No, but I know what he is.’ He suddenly got out of his trance like expression and sounded like himself again. ‘Thanks Tally. I owe you one.’ He winked at me before leaving the room.
I heard the front door close behind him as he left. What did he mean by what Ben was? It wasn’t like he was some monster who was going to kill me once he had me on his own. Anyway, who was Kyle to tell me who I could and couldn’t trust? Sure, he’s my best mate but he can’t boss me around. I’m trying to help him and this was my thanks. Mind you, Kyle does ‘owe me one’. All this thinking was beginning to hurt my head. I thought I would have a little nap before dinner. I drifted off to sleep with Ben and Kyle swimming round my head. What was I going to do?
