A Hidding Place

This is a short story and is not really anything but a first attempt at story writing and the simple structures. Please feel free to constructively criticize.

Helpless, we sat and watched. Everything slowed down and nothing seemed real as we watched him fall. I reached out my hand and my finger tips grazed his pale cheek. We locked eyes and the fear I saw there, I knew, would haunt me forever. Silent tears wet my warm skin, I smudged them away with a grubby hand readying myself for what was about to come. The autumn leaves caught him and his body was suddenly still. My mind refused to accept the present and as I sat there my legs dangling, sat on the branch of the beach tree I was taken back to a time before now.
