Carter's eyes reflected the plethora of windows and hud displays that accosted him within the darkness of his helmet. He scanned the commanders console, peering past the transparent displays that his helmet produced to track the movement of his men through the Bethesda. “Rob, stay in engineering, move to channel C and work with Logan to figure out what's wrong.

“Roger Sergeant. Switching channels now.” Rob said, tapping commands into a keypad that flipped up on his forearm. “Logan, you here?”

“I am, look up the command history while I check integrity. Let me know if you find anything.”

Rob got back to the datapad and starting tapping keys. “Everything here looks pretty normal, I've got regular commands, mostly involving slight adjustments to ring rotation in the core to stabilize the drive. Nothing's off here. What about you?”

“So far as I can tell, mechanically and electrically there's nothing wrong with the core. It must be a software issue.” Logan wanted to wipe the drop of sweat that was running down his nose, but with his helmet on, he had to resort to shaking his head violently in one direction to knock it off. When his eyes settled back on the screen, they opened wide. “Jesus Rob, I think I found it.”

“Found what?”

“Look at the registry. There's three applications that don't belong.”

“I see them, I can't access them, wait one is -”

“No don't access anything!”

“Fuck, too late, my datapad just shit the bed.”

“It's a virus.” Logan said. Hang on I'll be right back.” Logan switched channels to hear Will coming over the means.

“We're at the docking airlocks. No movement, Micheal's moving into the agora. There are crew here John, they seem confused to see us. We're going to bring them with us to the bridge to keep everyone together.”

“Roger that Will, keep me updated.”

“Will do.”

“Sergeant. I've got bad news.”

“What's that Logan?”

“I found out why the core shut down, it was a virus. Rob's datapad is also infected.”

“Are we clean?”

“I'm trying to determine that right now.” Logan said, as he filtered through the communications ports to assess their security level and whether or not they were compromised. “So far so good.”

“That's what I like to hear, keep me posted.”

“I'll get back on Channel C and figure it out with Rob. I'll try to assess the damage it's caused to the Bethesda's systems and get back to you.”

“Make it quick Logan.” Carter said, as he heard the click of Logan leaving his channel. Carter shook his head and returned to the task of navigating his crew through the Bethesda. “Will, give me a sit rep.”

“We're in the cafeteria now, making our way through the crew quarters. We've picked up a few more members of the crew.”

“How many are accounted for? There should be twenty three members all together.”

“Roger that Sergeant, they're all in front of me, scanning now.”

Carter watched as the signatures of twelve neutral targets appeared on his monitors. “I have them now, their pers files are loading up.” Each individual had been identified by the imaging systems in Will's helmet and their personal files from the Bethesda were populating on Carter's screen. “Everyone checks out Will, keep moving.”

“Hey Rob.” Logan asked, as he was still pouring over the information in front of him.

“Yeah.”

“I see you're back in the system, how'd you fix the datapad?”

“I didn't, I just found another floating around the room. Obviously it doesn't have the master key program, so we're going to have to do it the old fashioned way if there are more locked doors up ahead.”

“Did you tell Will yet that your datapad is fried?”

“Yes.”

“How'd that go?”

“As well as can be expected. I'm probably on his shit list for duties for the next month.”

“Well, we've got to get out of here before we get enough down time for duties, so at least you won't have to worry about them for a while.”

“I just found something.” Rob said, “The ports that were opened -”

“Shit. I just found it too, good eye. Let's switch channels.”

Carter heard the click of someone logging on to his channel.

“What's the situation Logan.”

“Sergeant, whoever put the virus in the Bethesda's systems is still there.”

Carter furrowed his brow. “How do you know that?”

“Because it has to be delivered in real time.” Logan sighed. “And we just got infected.”
