“What happened?”

He shook his head. “I don’t want to talk about it, I can’t.”

Caelan hesitantly reached up and touched Zeke’s cheek gently, his touch so light. Zeke’s eyes flew open immediately. He didn’t stop him so Caelan pressed his palm to his cheek.

“Don’t hate yourself, Zeke. I don’t. Though I was tempted for a little while,” he teased, a small smile on his lips.

“I’m not surprised,” he replied in all seriousness.

“I was joking, Zeke. Don’t be stupid.”

“After what happened before we went to sleep, I thought...” His eyes were wide in surprise.

Caelan blushed slightly. “Of course not, I... I enjoyed it,” he said, ending in a whisper.

He looked away, not wanting to see those big blue eyes. Zeke, on the other hand, had other ideas, turning him back.

“You did?” he murmured, his eyes shining.

Caelan’s blush deepened as he nodded silently. Zeke ran his thumb over Caelan’s lips softly. He took a shaky breath and moved a little closer than he already was, until their faces were practically touching.

Caelan wanted to lean forward and press his lips against Zeke’s, but there was something keeping him back. He looked at him quietly for a few moments, trying to work out why he wasn’t flinging himself at Zeke.

“I need to know you aren’t leaving again,” he whispered, realising what it was.

“I don’t think I’d be able to leave again now that I know this,” he smiled slightly.

“Then kiss me,” he murmured.

Zeke grinned and obliged, pulling Caelan flush against him. Caelan curled his fingers into Zeke’s long hair, pulling him even closer.

The feeling of Zeke’s tight muscles through their t-shirts made him want to tear the material to pieces but he refrained.

He didn’t know how long they sat there, just kissing in each other’s arms, but it wasn’t long enough in Caelan’s opinion. His heart sang as he found out that Zeke felt the same.

There was a sharp knock on the door, making Caelan jump and fall, yelping as he hit the floor.

“Caelan, are you alright?” Jordan said from the other side.

“Uh, yeah. Yeah, I’m fine,” he said in a shaky voice, his hands trembling.

Zeke quickly composed himself, making Caelan envy him of how swiftly he could recover from something. Zeke stood and opened the door slowly.

“Zeke?” Jordan said uncertainly, as if he were imagining him.

“Hey, Dad,” he replied a little sheepishly.

After a second or two, Jordan pulled Zeke to him, clutching him in a tight hug. Zeke hesitated only a moment before hugging him back. Once he’d released him, Jordan took Zeke’s hand in his, feeling the drying blood on his hand.

“What happened here?” he asked, examining the hand.

Zeke pulled back from his father, holding his hands behind his back to hide them.

“Nothing. Just had a problem materialising over.”

Jordan didn’t reply for a second. Caelan could tell that he didn’t believe Zeke. Caelan stood up, his breathing becoming more even.

The End
