Thunderstorm

Paste your face against the window

And look again

Smell the warm air blowing up

From the vent by your feet

Feel the chill of smooth gloss on your cheek

And listen

Do you hear the thunder in the distance?

Can you feel that jolt of excitement

Just waiting to pierce your mind?

Smile, just a moment

And calm your racing heart

Look. the rain is beginning

Just a little at first

Slowly starting, like all good things

Then building, building

Till it blinds your view

With smudged lace patterns

Feel the thunder, loud now,

Tingling in your fingernails

Widening your grin

You breathe in the moment

The air is more real in a thunderstorm

You are more real

Paste your face against the window

And look again
