Looking for heaven, found the devil in me
Well what the hell I’m gonna let it happen to me
Shake it out – Florence and the Machine
Have you ever stood at a crossroad in your life and wonder what direction you should take? Should you be the villain or the hero? Because let's face it, only villains and heroes ever live up to glory. Everything in between is just...boring.
As metaphorical as it sounds, it wasn't...
“Did I do this right?” I asked to myself as I moved some of the dirt with my boot.
“If you didn’t handsome me wouldn’t be standing here, now would I?” I heard a husky voice say behind me.
I turned around only to see one of the most beautiful men I have ever seen in my life. His messy black hair, his neon green eyes, his strong jawline and cheekbones, the rugged 5 o’clock shadow emphasising those kissable lips. He was dressed in nothing but black, sporting a collar shirt with the first three buttons unbuttoned and over his broad shoulders was an elegant leather jacket. I didn’t even bother to look at the rest of him.
“I’m impressed. I didn’t think crossroad demons looked so fancy. I’m Alexis.” I said as I stuck my hand out.
Now I know what you’re thinking, a crossroads demon?! The horror! For shame madam, for shame! Well get over it. If you can’t take it don’t listen to the rest of the story. And no I did not grow up crappy or joined cults or planned to start my own one. I had a perfectly normal childhood with loving parents. I had dogs and I never killed or sacrificed them for my “twisted” needs. My school life had been normal as well. I wasn’t the most popular or richest or sportiest, however I was lucky enough to be given above average intelligence. And I never went through any emo or gothic or vampiric stage in my life. Only stage I have ever been in was a dull, introverted bookworm who was made of sugar and everything nice. And I was in desperate need of spice.
“Damon.” He replied as he lifted my hand to his lips. A comforting, warm sensation ran through my veins as soon as I felt his soft lips.
“That’s… weird.” I said trying to regain my composure.
He flashed me a devilish grin. “Really?Because I can hear your heart beating quite fast. Besides I needed to taste you.”
“And that’s creepy.” I said sourly as I pulled my coat over my chest. “Look, are we going to make a deal or not?”
“A woman who knows what I want. I like it.” The grin still hasn’t left his face.
I rolled my eyes, trying to distract him from my blushing cheeks. “So how do we go about this deal business?”
It wasn’t until he took a step closer that I realised he was a head taller than me. Standing this close to me he looked very powerful and somewhat dangerous. Hopefully he didn’t still hear my heart beating because truth be told, I was nervous.
“Well you need to tell me what you want and then a kiss is required to make the pact.” Damon pouted his lips a little. I’m pretty sure no one ever said no to a deal when he looked like that. He must have a closet filled with souls.
“So nothing involving blood?” I asked intently.
“I don’t know what book you read, but no. Besides a kiss is much better, especially when it’s from me.”
“That’s not so bad. I can do that.” I said aloud as I stood on the tip of my toes and put my arms around his neck.
“Okay, whoa, wait you do know-“ My mouth cut his off as I pressed my lips against his. The warm sensation grew stronger and a burning electricity went to my chest. I felt myself sinking deeper into his presence and I realized I needed to pull away before I am lost in it. I tried to peel my lips from his until I felt his one hand in my hair, his other hand on the small of my back, crushing both my body and lips into his. The sudden playfulness of his tongue crawling between my lips made me lose all control of my thoughts, the purpose of why I’m here with him. The desire in my body screamed for him to have his way with me. Until my voice started screaming as I pushed him away and clutched my now scorching chest.
I fell to my knees as I held my chest tightly, heaving. As I looked down I saw what looked like a reddish-orange light, pulsating where my heart is. I looked up to see Damon heaving as well, although he was not in any pain. “W- What’s going on?” I pleaded, trying to keep my tears away.
“The pact is being sealed. Basically your soul now has a burn mark on it. The bigger your demands, the stronger the pact, the more it will hurt. Which brings me to my question.” He said seriously as he stood over me. “How was the pact made? You never made any demands. You didn’t even utter a word.”
I waved him away with my free hand, trying to breathe. I needed the cool air to fill my chest and extinguish the boiling lava within me. Hell probably felt like this. No one deserved to feel like this, not even the worst cannibalistic serial killer did. The light in my chest started to die down and the burning started to cool. After the last light disappeared from my chest, I fell backwards, lying on the ground with my eyes closed. I just needed a few minutes of peace to recover.
“Well? “I heard as his shadow covered my face.
“Well I know I never asked to be Tony Stark, and even if I did you did a horrible job. His technology is way better than yours.” I opened my left eye to look at him.
“How was the pact made?”
“You mean you don’t know?”
“How was the pact made?”
“Some demon you are, huh?”
“Tell me how the pact was made!”
“Or I will slit your throat and make you drink your own blood before the last breath of air leaves your body.” He hissed.
A smug smile appeared on my face. “You can’t kill me. Not yet anyway. It’s part of our pact.”
He was taken aback. “What did you do?”
“I’m not stupid. Trust me. I did enough research. I didn’t have to make any verbal demands because I buried my demands in the little lockbox that’s now in the crossroad. And now you’re bound to me, our pact is sealed. So now you have to do whatever stood on that piece of paper.” I flashed him my devilish grin.
I suddenly felt his whole weight on sitting top of me, his hands pinning my arms next to my head. I opened my other eye only to see his nose against mine, his eyes turning black, clenching on his teeth. “What did you ask for you pitiful human scum?!” His screaming made me flinch, hoping that what I referenced was true. Otherwise I’d be dying a lot sooner than I thought I would be.
“You’re my demon for the next 6 hours and 66 days. And that you can’t kill me or defy me. If I presented that to you verbally you would have refused so I had no choice but to trick you.” I yelled as I turned my head and closed my eyes, bracing myself for any consequences that might follow.
My waiting was rewarded with a defeated sigh and the grip on my arms loosening.
“So you tricked a demon? That’s impressive I guess.” I looked up only to see him calm and relaxed with half a smile on his beautiful face.
“Sorry.” I mumbled. “Maybe you can get off me now, it’s a little awkward.”
“It’s awkward that I’m on top of you? Just a few minutes ago you were having no problem sucking on my face madam.”
“That was to make the pact! It was all business.” I frowned as I felt my cheeks starting to gain colour.
He bit his lip in an effort to hide his laughter. “A kiss to seal a pact with a demon is like this…”
I felt his lips pressed softly against mine, capturing my top lip between his. He pulled away, our noses touching, staring deeply into my eyes. I didn’t know how to breathe or how to talk or how to respond. I felt myself caught in his intensity.
“That was a business kiss.” He whispered into my ear. “What we did was for pleasure.” He started to kiss my earlobe. I felt myself drifting off into a world of ecstasy. “Of course there’s something I need to tell you.” He said before he softly nibbled at my ear.
“Hmmmmmm.” The only reply I could gather while my body was filled with the desire for him.
He moved his lips down to my neck and lifted them long enough to say, “You have ten years left to live and then I get your soul.”
