Elena's breath catches in her throat. Her head spins and she can barely see the room around her.
"Wh-what do you mean?" She finally forces herself to say.
Dr. Hammond gives her an eery smile. "Oh, I think you know what I mean." He tells her. Then he leans back and finishes up some paperwork before glancing back up at her. "I believe we are done here. Have a good day, Elena."
Elena can barely breath as she stands up and slowly walks out of the room. She steps into the elevator and presses the button. As the doors close, she leans her head back against the wall with her eyes closed. She has to force air into her lungs. She almost jumps when the doors slide open, making a ding noise. She takes another deep breath to calm herself and walks out, her head held high.
Elena doesn't realize it, but she is shaking as she approaches the car waiting for her. Thomas practically jumps out of it and to her.
"Elena! Are you okay?"
She simply nods, not trusting her voice at the moment. He opens the door for her and she takes a seat. They ride on in silence until they arrive back at the building they'd been before. Elena gets out and heads to her room. Before she knows it, she's asleep.
For once, she has no nightmares. Which is almost more terrifying.
She wakes to Thomas pacing in her room. It takes him a moment to notice her open eyes.
"Elena!" He practically screams in excitement, then clears his throat to calm himself down. "Good. You're awake." He sits across from her. "Can you tell me what happened? We need to know right away."
Elena takes a deep breath before telling Thomas what happened at her appointment, being carful to make sure she tells him all the details she can remember. Throughout the story, Thomas's face grows more and more worried.
"What did he say?"
"He told me to follow the Jackal."
Silence. Then Thomas stands up and walks out of the room. Soon, he is back, along with some other men.
"Okay, Elena. Here's the plan." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Elena's nerves are on edge. She stares up at the warehouse looming before her, an image from a nightmare. She swallows and steals her nerves, hoping and praying this crazy idea will work.
She closes her eyes for a brief moment, then slowly, carefully, walks towards the building. She stands in front of the door and is just about to knock before she hears a voice from behind her, a voice she recognizes well.
