Step 2: Act Calm and Relaxed

Right. So Step 1 didn't work out so good. Let's move on to step 2. Act calm and relaxed.

The morning dragged by. The only thing that got me through the first two lessons was the thought of break. As soon as the 11:30 bell went I grabbed my bag and ran out of the classroom. Calm and relaxed Roseanna. You'll get there eventually.

Forcing myself to slow down, I focused on putting one foot in front of the other. Abandoning Step 1 completely, I looked at my feet, hoping against hope that I wouldn't trip over. Needless to say, I walked straight into him.

"Oh! Hi! Again..." I said, desperately trying to slow my whole body motion down.

"Um... Hi. Have you got a sore throat or something? I've got throat sweets in my bag," he said, reaching over his shoulder to his rucksack. Damn - Not THAT calm and relaxed. Normal. Normal pitch, speed, volume. You can do this.

"No, no - I'm fine. I'm... practising for my play," I stumbled, trying to come up with a decent excuse.

"Oh, right. When is it?"

"Erm... Soon?" Abandoning all hope, I dashed off, looking like a complete idiot but not really caring.

"Wait! Roseanna?" his voice floated after me and my heart lurched into my throat. This is it. He's going to ask you out. Calm and relaxed, calm and re- "You have something on your shoe," he finished.

Calm and relaxed? Yeah, right.

The End
