I mumbled a yes and gestured for her to follow me- before long we were in the safety and comfort of my living room. My new friend relaxed on the sofa and sighed happily, meanwhile I headed to the kitchen to put away my loot. After a couple of minutes, I could hear her talking but couldn't hear what she was saying.
"Huh? Sorry, I didn't hear you." I asked, poking my head around the door.
"I said: so stranger, what's your name?" She replied, smiling sweetly as she said it.
"Tarquin Davenish, though my friends call me Quinn. You?"
"Oh my gosh! It is you!" Squealed the now very excited girl on my sofa.
"It's me you idiot!" She squealed while I stared blankly at her " Jaymee Scott!"
Now I recognised her, we were in the same course in University. She always had been really pretty and bubbly- she hadn't changed. She hadn't finished the course either, dropping out a few weeks after I did. I was the first but nowhere near the last, the vast majority following suit in the next couple of months.
Jaymee hadn't had the same rich upbringing that I'd had- always in and out of care homes; never able to settle in with a family.Things didn't get better when she left and got a place of her own, she fell in with the wrong crowd- spending all of her free time with druggies and alcoholics, before becoming one herself.
