You Can Sleep When You're 40

I saw the sun set in the ocean
and I thought of you
But it meant to nothing to me
because you are long gone

You gave me the faith
and took my hope
You reached out and touched me
before you walked away

Stay with me for one more hour
You can sleep when you’re 40
I can’t let you abandon me
You can sleep when you’re 40
I’ll stay awake for as long as you want

I saw the red mist eclipse your eyes
I never looked at you the same way
But I am willing to accept it
if you could only accept me

You gave me the sadness
I pretended was my joy
I reached out and held you
I never wanted to let you go

Stay with me for one more hour
You can sleep when you’re 40
I can’t let you abandon me
You can sleep when you’re 40
I’ll stay awake for as long as you want

I can still see that evening
the fireworks scarred the skies
Rising above us
touching the heavens
More... than we could hope for

The End
