You

This is my first abstract poem. I was pretty much turned off from poetry entirely by 7th grade (because of this horrifying book that said on the cover: Afraid of poetry? We'll help you! Ugh. *shudders*) but I had to do a creative writing assignment using interesting metaphors, so here it is. :)

You

You drew my attention

you were

a brightly colored,

graffiti covered

 wall.

Splashes of paint, drifting everywhere

Made something

Beautiful.

Mirror light glowed

and glanced off your hair

made me think you

were someone

 I knew.

Emerald grass

Shattered.

As you ran

across the field.

Jostling bleachers,

The sparrow fluttered but

On broken wings,

it could not get past

So many people.

It was only an excuse anyway.

But then you looked, and said

He’s my favorite character

I smiled, and said

He was mine too.

When you asked,

And I

shook my head.

You will never know

that my heart

was dripping full

of

honey

warm

and

sweet.

The End
