Grey September looming of snow
and the sun there; just because
their hands squeezed tight
the elder one eleven
did promise
he had to, not one has ever said
and the younger one hears the
sobs she cannot stifle
and they are unexpected; he looks
down, the direction
it's the only one that's comfortable
how could he know how
to behave
He thinks he has an idea
at least now
each year brings new answers
fresh and crisp as a dying leaf
refusing to follow its brethren
that that day changed

The End
