Why Can't She?

Her love chips away at my soul
One tiny piece at a time-
Tearing into in my life-thread
Devoid of remorse

But she doesn’t know

How can she,
When I’ve kept it hidden
Beneath false smiles
And nonchalant masks-
A make believe perfect
Holding her up,
Bearing her burdens,
Remembering her bruises-
As she cuts right through mine

But she’s known me for so long.
Why can’t she tell?

Tell her so I can make it okay
Tell her so I can defrost the way-
A burnt bridge to our lives
Held together by a single shred of pained hope
forgotten in the whirlwind of our romance-

A creature’s pathetic wish for everlasting love.

The End
