What Used to Be

A little girl-
With long blonde hair
Blue--wide eyes
And an ever-present sunshine smile

Joyfully playing
Avec un petit chien-
Who filled those little wide eyes with wonder.

She used to be me
But I was never her-
For that joyful sunshine smile
Is now distant, blinking, and scarce
Like a plane in the cloudy midnight sky.

The End
