What is it?

Ok so the whole Poetry Month thing... Very little response (which is fine, this is an exercise for me), but what has come out of it that has been interesting is some level of question as to just what constitutes a poem. We shall see...

What is it?

So,

does it need to rhyme?

----------------------

No,

it will still be fine

without is not a crime

----------------------

Whoa!

Then

does it need a beat

when

from rough draft to complete

written on a sheet

by pen?

----------------------

Again,

it doesn't need to keep

rhythm.

Rules are just discrete

methods to delete

mayhem.

----------------------

I'm lost

Why create mayhem?

Chaos

is surely not our friend

won't get us to an end

worth the cost

----------------------

Wait...

There's freedom in that state.

----------------------

Oh great...

----------------------

The rule was made to break

as much as celebrate

Debate!

----------------------

Too late

Linear and straight

It's fate

Please don't complicate

My nerves will start to grate

Relate?

----------------------

But if

My thoughts are just constrained

to sift

Through structure formal trained

Then passion must stay chained

not drift.

Bereft

of catalyst insane

The gift

will surely not remain

so hard to explain

the rift

will cause it too much pain

will censor until sane

no lift

The End
