"What is in a name?"

"It has been three years
since the government made
the new law -
everyone has to live up to
their own name."

It has been three years
since the government made
the new law -
everyone has to live up to
their own name.

It has been three years
since ‘Anna’s have been forgiving
and ‘Edward’s have been wealthy,
while ‘Lupe’s have kept wolves
and ‘Aden’s have become pyromaniacs.

I (Light) am talking to
my friend Aadila (Honesty)
and she sighs.
I think I will name my child
something easier,
she tells me, and
I tilt my head.

No name is easy,
I tell her simply.
You could name someone
 Gleda (Happy),
and they would be stuck
in a life of
perpetually fake smiles.

She shakes her head.
But I would not choose Gleda.

What would you choose?
I ask.
She smiles back at me.

Human.

The End
