What Am I?

This was written June 3rd 2007. My daughter was nearly one month old. I wrote this after a phone conversation with her father.

You don't know what I am?
In my mind I wished you'd said,
"You are my child's mother."
You don't know what I am?
From your heart you could have said,
"Vanessa you are my friend."
You don't know what I am?
In your head you could have thought,
I want you to be my lover.
You do not know what I am.

In my soul I feel immense distress
You are my child's father,
I feel you are my friend,
I wish we were together
So I could be your lover
And we could hold each other
Until the morning through each night's end.
But I only am what I am...

The End
