Warning signs

There were the warning signs
that I never realized before
I was starved for affection
But none forthcoming anymore

As a couple we were intimate
mechanically we would commune
each deriving solitary pleasures
all other emotions so removed

Into this dull routine we fell
never quite exchanging a glance
reluctant to confront any issues
run away when we got the chance

The years quickly disappeared
Two strangers soon parted ways
vowing to remain good friends
only in spirit, but never obeyed

The End
