Villanelle

This was devilishly hard to write.

The man was holding a glittering blade

A haunting, glistening Tool of Death

He brought the end of her life's parade

The candy-floss spun, as it betrayed

Its pain at hearing her last breath

The man was holding a glittering blade

Around the girl, screams, shocked, dismayed,

Were drowned in her own at the violent theft

The man was holding a glittering blade

The jugglers in tents, unaware as she paid,

Danced under tightropes, joyful and deft

He brought the end of her life's parade

The knife flashed and shone, hearing her fade

Death was a chasm, she fell in the cleft

The man was holding a glittering blade

He brought the end of her life's parade

The End
