Immortal

II.

But what use is living
if only to scrabble?
Why cower in the dirt
when the sunlight beckons,
when the wind calls your name?
Indeed,
it might burn you;
it's much safer down here.
But what use is living
if only to scrabble?

Is living in safety living at all?

Look around.
There are a thousand dirty faces
just like your own.
A thousand and one.
All of them will die one day,
regardless of the safety
of the dark, familiar dirt.
Look around.

Who do you see?

When the end comes,
for it will come for us all,
the world will not remember
those thousand and one faces.
It will not remember you.
It will only remember
those that strove for the sun,
when the end comes.

Why not spread your wings?

Those that fly shall live forever.

The End
