Icarus

A few different takes on life...

I.

Life is dark.
Dark as the dirt
beneath your fingernails,
good dirt, alive, acquired
from the act of scrabbling.
Of living.
The dirt is humble.
The dirt is good.
Life is dark.

Dark is the material of Life.

Remember the sun--
burning, blinding--
you are better off without it.
The sun is light.
The sun is merciless.
The sun will consume us all.
Remember the sun.

The sun is not for you.

Don't cry.
This is how things are,
how they always were.
Be not ashamed
of your dirty face.
The dirt is humble.
The dirt is good.
Don't cry.

This is how the world works.

Better to scrabble
than to fly.
The earth is your friend,
not the sky.
Leave the sun
for those who wish
to be burned.
Better to scrabble
than to fly.

Those that fly shall sooner die.

The End
