Through The Smoke

When someone is in the rush of battle, and how humanity takes a backseat to the instinct of survival

Heartbeat drumming furiously within my ears

deafening, thundering unrelenting

It feels like this night is neverending

Heavy breaths as we crouch behind the wall

A flashbang converts night to day

Rising up, sprinting through the smoke

Words barked and screamed to brothers

Gunshots echo and boom in the void

The shower of brass and rivers of blood

Souls take flight from bodies buried in mud

All of this, is this even real

I'm numb and I'm cold, nothing to feel

Radio static and muffled cries

Devoid of the sadness when they fade to black

Somewhere in the darkness my humanity died

All I know is the enemy

All I know is the battle in front of me

The shower of brass and rivers of blood

Souls take flight from bodies buried in mud

All of this, is this even real

I'm numb and I'm cold, nothing to feel

The End
