Then and now

To mi' lady

For a few brief moments she was
that beautiful woman I had wed
who had set many a hearts aflutter
with a toss of that lovely head

I had managed to capture the picture
at one lazy Sunday afternoon
It was that perfect moment in time
But alas, it all but ended too soon

Next moment, she became that wife, the mother
there was someone calling out her name
There was a dish burning on the stove
the children and I driving her insane

I look at that picture with chagrin
Perhaps by wedding her I may have erred
The children and I have imprisoned her
due to us the problems she's incurred

I know she frets about her appearance
There are things about her she hates
But to me she's even more beautiful
than that girl I used to date.

The End
