The Wings Of Icarus
Friends wallow in misery, self-made but you're still desperate to help
Lessons learned, what a remark, because they do it to themselves
Her voice and memory haunt you till the end, but you're still in love
You cry for her, though she would happily neglect you, love is here
But logic has disappeared
The list of names grows longer, all have neglect in common
And self-destruction, because you love the downward spiral too
Even if they never could begin to love you
She's spreading her wings, long lost to the horizon's call
And her heart burns like the sun, and now she begins to fall
Lover's history reenacted and the consequences play out the same
Because even if you love her, she will never change
Lovers threaten to run far away, and you're dragged deep in the hunt
You could never understand, or fail to serve yet again
Swept away by the winds now hostile, again you've taken the bait
The chances for preservation long ago left, now you know you're too late
The list of names grows longer, all have neglect in common
And self-destruction, because you love the downward spiral too
Even if they could never begin to love you
The cycle lasts beyond human endurance
And you seek to suffer me with assurance
You can never control addiction, and there's the con
Because it blinds you, misguides you, till everything else has gone
