Disappear

In fields of dark I meet my greatest fear -

I cannot rage and rail against my fate:

So I could disappear for ever here.

I stand on edge of cliffs that feel so sheer,

My mind is weak - I know it is too late -

In fields of dark I meet my greatest fear.

No more can I recall friend's face so dear,

They turn from me and shout in fright and hate

That I should disappear for ever here.

Alone, I cry, and lose my last pearl tear,

This sickness nothing I can do will sate -

In fields of dark I meet my greatest fear.

My thoughts have travelled far but never near -

They move in an uneven, roughened gait;

And I may disappear for ever here.

As daylight comes, the path ahead seems clear -

My life is done; for only Death I wait.

In fields of dark I meet my greatest fear:

For I will disappear - for ever here.
