untitled I

i construct your silhouette

every line

every plane

build it up to flesh and blood

paint a face

add a name

and you remember, don’t you

how to leave the stars alone

before the spark

the flames, the smoke

that ate away your home

we don’t try to fight the moon

we let it wax and wane

we define its silhouette

every line

every plane

you will face what they had faced

i become what they became

they tell me that i looked for you

(you know how hard i try)

i peered in every shadow

i followed every cry

they say that i was wearing black

so you would see me ‘gainst the sky

but i can only last so long

my tender feet

my aching thighs

i construct a memory

you know how hard i try
