Poet # Six

Responding to Poet #14

I craved a word, a breath, to steal,
For you, my love, I played this game,
Though for her, you were not meant to feel,
And even struggling through the pain
I lacked a way to shake the blame,
From her I stole the rights to you,
And smiled, although she left her stain,
Because I knew you felt it too.

She never meant that much; you'd heal
And one day see that we're the same.
I crept into your house concealed,
And even struggling through the pain,
A piece of you I had reclaimed,
A treasure lying right in view,
In taking it there was no shame.
Because I knew you felt it too.

My secret, to you, she chose to reveal,
And in those words a love was slain,
Ensuring for me, you'd never feel.
And even struggling through the pain,
From seeing you, who could refrain?
A sleep so sweet was holding you,
I struck the match to start the flame,
Because I knew you felt it too.

You didn't smile, or say my name,
But even struggling through the pain,
I could forgive you,
Because I knew you felt it too.
