The Spare Room

Recommend

Rummaging around the spare room today,

  I found many wonderful things.

Admittedly most stuff was in the way

of teaspoons and bits of string,

A chair that my brother's been meaning to weld,

  some curtains and spools of thread;

But oh what treasures this spare room held,

half hidden just under the bed.

I dug out a pile of old magazines

from my days as a student nurse,

An occupation which far predates

my new interest in comic verse.

I found an old teddy called Mr Timms,

which I thought I'd thrown away.

But in restrospect I'm glad he's still here,

though his ears are beginning to fray.

And finally, under a pile of shirts,

I dug out a scarf from my mother,

She tried cross-stitch once and got quite cross,

  and hadn't since knitted another.

So, rummaging around the spare room today,

I found lots of interesting stuff,

But now I must stuff it away again -

  Of tidying, I've had enough!
