The Candle

Recommend

The Autumn air is so serene
If only for a moment, there's a chance that it might go
I sit and think of what it might mean
Before I get an answer, I'm taken by the wind, oh

The truth is not what we know
It's what we do and how we go down the path

You were in my heart
Before I even knew your name
And I knew it from the start
That I could never just look away
You're the candle in my cave

The winter came without mercy
There's nothing that remains, but I still keep my hope
I wish you lived a whole lot closer
You could fend off all these demons and ghosts

You were in my heart
Before I even knew your name
And I knew it from the start
That I could never just look away
You're the candle in my cave

The truth is not what we know
It's what we do and how we go down the path
The truth is never what we think
It's the way in which we teach ourselves to change

You were in my heart
Before I even knew your name
And I knew it from the start
That I could never just look away
You're the candle in my cave

You'll always be the candle in my cave

Author guidance for This poem

Bartimaeus This is a collection of songs I began writing at the very beginning of 2012 (literally on new year's eve), and it originally began as a branch that grew off my other work Rite of Spring. I decided to separate the works, because Rite of Spring is meant for poetry and art-narratives as opposed to actual song lyrics.

Please comment and critique; this is entirely a self-improvement effort. I want to become quite good at song writing one day.
