The Seven Wonders of the World

Recommend

Foreword

Thursday 3rd February

Today in Creative Writing, we were set the task of writing a piece (or several pieces) related to the Seven Wonders of the World. I decided to write a poem about each one.

Now, as well as describing each wonder, there had to be some feature of the piece relating to the number seven. That is why

a) there are seven stanzas in 'The Great Pyramid at Giza', 'The Statue of Zeus at Olympia', 'The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus' and 'The Colossus of Rhodes'

b) there are seven stanzas in 'The Hanging Gardens of Babylon'.

and c) there are seven stanzas and a final line containing seven words in 'The Pharos at Alexandria' and 'The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus'.
