Contrary to what is in the Author Guidance, I'm probably going to look back on this one and think 'Ouch, that's sentimental'. It's rather rough around the edges, though I'd like to think that some of the imagery is good. I hope it's at least a little likeable. Tianna xx

Distance.

The dreaded word.

When you know you’ll be apart

for an unbearable time.

My darling and I,

we might feel the distance ...

but I know he’s close by...

Close by, close by,

ever close by:

He's the horizon and I'm the sky.

We meet at the periphery of everyone's vision

and share secret kisses as day turns to night...

The stars...

You could not imagine it but he is more beautiful.

If you stared into the depths of your lover's

heart, you might come close to seeing.

But holding him is far more profound.

So when I’m not, the world turns grey.

But I know he’s close by.

Close by, close by,

ever close by:

He's the horizon and I'm the sky.

We meet at the periphery of everyone's vision

and share secret kisses as day turns to night...

The sea.

That expressive being; that source of dream-filled poetry!

He is that -

my knight in shining armour.

Yet, for all my words, he is

beyond words. Beautiful imagery,

sadly, could not do him justice.

But there is pleasure in creating poetry,

like the pleasure in dreaming...

In poems and in dreaming, he is

close by.

Close by, close by,

ever close by:

He's the horizon and I'm the sky.

We meet at the periphery of everyone's vision

and share secret kisses as day turns to night...

The return;

the joy of the sun!

Something slips into place beside my heart:

Something that was never lost and, yet,

has been re-found.

Like sand through water, I sink into his gaze.

This is where I wish him -

near me, close by.

Close by, close by,

ever close by:

He's the horizon and I'm the sky.

We meet at the periphery of everyone's vision

and share secret kisses as day turns to night...

Author guidance for This poem

Tianna Ah, the creation of this anthology was inevitable...

Hmm? You don't know why? Well, you evidently don't know me well enough. lol

All criticism welcome, so long as the word 'sentimental' isn't used (and I mean in the negative sense), but obviously, if you don't like poetry or the theme or romance, don't write a comment talking about how this strengthened your opinions (it's never happened but life is unpredictable).

And now you've seen how awful I am at trying to be funny too. I'll go now...

Note: This collection excludes the poems under the name 'The Yielding Key' because that's a collection in itself and these are all single poems.

Note on 'When You Think No One Cares':
This sprang from a shorter poem that I came up with while planning a story called 'The Dream Plane'*. You can see the original poem in the summary of the story, and the edit which preceded the final draft in the author guidance.

I got the idea for one of the metaphors in this poem at a sighting of the moon in the sky this afternoon - it was big and full and beautiful. And I came up with the metaphor for one person being the tide, and the other moon (since the moon controls the tide). Really, the rest of the poem is a collection of other sciency metaphors I could think up, all of course as romantic as I could make them. So... enjoy this little burst of nature-inspired writing.
