the woman who could not talk

she let her voice
drift away,
seeing it as an unnecessary

but then she met
a friend who gasped
like it was going out of style,
who had to force each syllable out

and you know what?
she didn't change,
just lent her voice
to one who used it better.

she gave up
something she didn't use,
handed it over
and in return was given empathy

The End
