Chapter 17Mature

I noticed the sudden darkness too late

They had already lured us into their territory
Their footsteps surrounded us
and I heard the clicks before they told us
to hold our positions

Up our hands went
and everywhere did theirs

They patted us past our boundaries
grabbing the things that shouldn't be grabbed
taking what was ours

They wore the looks of those who'd seen
this new world much longer than we had
much more menacing
much more devilish
a much greater hunger

The men licked their lips
and moved like cowards with power

I saw a man's eyes light up
as his looks turned to Her

and a tidal wave threatened the east

The End
