Chapter 11Mature

The marble reflected red
It was only a fraction of The Illusion
yet its image flared all memory
The reaper claimed four new victims
and sent his laughter in my direction

I dropped as the red snakes slithered across the marble
But I couldn't stay
I saw Her eyes
The tears forming
I couldn't break
Not in a broken world

I counted until the clock hit the next quarter
That was all the time I could allow myself
Fifteen ticks
And with every one
I got closer to succumbing to the insanity The Flame created
Until I accepted it

Because in The Flame
Denial is death

The End
