The apple and the shoe

the apple tree is growin'

with its blossoms all a-showin'

with the gondolas a rowin'

without knowing where th're goin'

and the fishermen reply

fish to buy, fish to fry

"tit for tat and this for that"

and soon you're sadly saving scraps

just enough for you to buy

just enough for you to fry.

dip it in a cider pail

with cinnamon and ginger ale.

give the gondalier a slice

and ask to have a ride half price

and if he says to you "no deal"

take away his daily meal.

The End
