You Cannot Take My Life

You thought you would leave me broken?
You thought you could crush me?
Well, remember this;

You may shatter my heart into a thousand shards of glass
You may assail me with words made of knives,
Bring me to the very verge of death--- but not quite,
Break me till I cry tears of blood,
Until the pain is my only companion
You may leave me weak and trembling,
Imprisoned within the walls of my own sorrow;

But there is one thing, you cannot do;
You cannot change who I am,
You cannot take away my soul,
For to do this
Is to take away my life itself.

The End
