Sonnet a la Scotch

The irony of life!!

Horse and mule live 30 years

Knowing nothing of wines and beers.

Goats and sheep at 20 die

With never a taste of Scotch & rye;

The cow drinks water by the ton,

N' then by 18 she's mostly done!

The dog at 15 cashes in,

Without the aid of rum and gin.

The cat in milk and water soaks,

And then by 12 it surely croaks.

The modest sober bone-dry hen,

Lays eggs for noggs, then dies at 10.

All animals are strictly dry,

hey sinless live and swiftly die,

But the sinful, ginfull men,

Live for 3 score years and then.

And some for us,the mighty few,

Stay pickeled till we're ninety - two!!

The End
