Song For Suckers

Song For Suckers

I’ve been battered I’ve been bruised
I’ve been conned and I’ve been used
I’ve shed some tears and I’ve shed some blood
Seen my good name dragged through the verbal mud.
My hearts been Broken my soul disconnected
I’ve had my hopes and dreams intercepted
Been punched in the face and kicked in the balls
I’ve fallen down holes I’ve run into walls.
I’ve been face down on beer soaked bars
Laid supine in the gutter and seen no stars
Been stabbed in the back and also in the front
I’ve been devoid of shelter when a tempest comes.
I’ve been beaten black and beaten blue
Been subject to rumors that are not true
I’ve been the butt of countless crass jokes
Had my pride pummelled against shames ropes.
My ships have sunk and my trains have derailed
I’ve so seldom succeeded and so often failed
Though I shall replenish my pencil with lead
Because the one thing I haven't yet been is dead.

The End
