Sometimes The Good Guys Lose

We’ve reached the last act and we’re still alive
it’s myself the so-called hero and the suave villain
who only wants you to call his own
I stand before you trembling
in the glare of the moonlight as I confess
I can almost see the audience hush collectively

But you couldn’t find the beauty within my words
and I was left to watch you fall into his arms
as the dawn shone in your tears of joy
So when the credits rolled I could only walk away
and surrender the ghost of my pride
as it is what's expected of me

I did all I could
but as I should
have known
She was never
after a romance so tender
I just got to accept
Sometimes the good guys lose

The End
