should have been sleeping
I should have been sleeping.
I was tired, I had worked all day,
my toes still tingling from my weight
splayed upon my feet as I ran
home in time to anticipate
your voice
somehow
would defy the usual lull of silence.
I should have been sleeping.
If I was, I wouldn't not be weeping
with that emptiness in my chest
knowing I could try my best
but never fix the rest
and that when you said you'd call
it was words and that was all
for if actions spoke louder,
yours weren't even audible.
Not even a whisper.
