She Was Once My Everything

Her frigid heart was once so enticing;
an electric shock to my placid heart.
My only hope: the silent excising
of careful bonds I feared would fall apart.

She pulled my soul from the depths of darkness
when my anchored body drowned in the sea.
Her touch ignited the bones of the carcass
that reminded me who I used to be.

But as all great moments come to an end,
so do the tranquil doves that flocked my thoughts.
The countless gashes that I'm left to mend
have been emptied, and all my time for naught.

Be still now, the blood that courses my veins;
for today, my heart shall be wrapped in chains.
