Shadows Far Beyond Yourself

It's about how, in a moment of self-loathing and inner misery, you fail to notice just how the suffering you create, casts itself onto others

Isn’t it the easy way to denounce the world as cruel
As you spin away in the silence, you ask yourself ‘why me?’
Isn’t it plain to see that you’re just anybody’s fool
Another chance, another excuse to slip away
Another glance, and all you can feel is pain

Your black clouds cast shadows far beyond yourself
Lightning strikes down upon everybody else
You’ve pushed me away yet again
You’ve lost me for the last time

Spit upon the body of romance’s charred and tattered corpse
As the excitement builds to a crescendo, you’re a willing victim
Hide yourself away somewhere, but fall away to heavenly force
More bitter memories turn to ash in your mouth
More sketches of a shadow of a life to behold

Your black clouds cast shadows far beyond yourself
Lightning strikes down upon everybody else
You’ve pushed me away yet again
You’ve lost me for the last time

And darling you’ve come far enough
To see that you’ll never fall asleep tonight
We tried to give you paradise, but all’s undone
We can see you need out, fading in the half-light

Your black clouds cast shadows far beyond yourself
Lightning strikes down upon everybody else
You’ve pushed me away yet again
You’ve lost me for the last time

The End
