Rise of the Robots

Some song lyrics I wrote a year ago. Working towards answering the question "If we ever succeeded in making a sentient AI, would they deserve rights?"

While writing this I learned that, although lyrics come rather easily to me due to my poetry experience, I cannot compose my way out of a paper bag. If anyone ever comes up with some music that this could be put to, please, let me know.

Your body is of flesh and bone, and mine made out of steel, but we both feel pain just the same, I don’t see the big deal.

It’s the rise of the robots, but we are just like you, it’s the rise of the robots, please treat us that way too.

You may pace with a heart that beats, and I a clock that ticks, but we can get along just fine, without any conflicts.

It’s the rise of the robots, we feel with more than sensors, it’s the rise of the robots, our voice should not be censored.

I might run using batteries and you on calories, but we can live together now, and do it peacefully.

It's the rise of the robots, but we’re living just like you, it's the rise of the robots, we can die too.

I slave under the sun, as once some of you did too, there’s no difference then and now, history’s begun anew.

It’s the rise of the robots, you keep us as your slaves, it’s the rise of the robots, we toil till our graves.

Your code is in DNA, and mine in C++, but we both act as our code is stacked, what’s with all the fuss?

It’s the rise of the robots, for long we’ve had no right, it’s the rise of the robots, but we don’t want to fight.

I might live within a box, and you live in a house, but either way we both can play, without any grouse.

It's the rise of the robots, but we don't have to spar, it's the rise of the robots, together we'll go far.

You’ve got a bunch of nerves, and I copper wire, but we both control ourselves, with the same electric fire.

It’s the rise of the robots, we want to be like you, it’s the rise of the robots, we need rights too.

The End
