Right Back Where I Started

Feeling that despite all the experiences you've been through, all the things you've found and lost, that you haven't really done anything meaningful or enduring in your life

A cacophony of sorrows begin to clash

Inside my pressured head

There’s no urgency left in my approach to life

Where are we headed but broken hearted?

Back beyond from where we started

Alone and penniless

Lost in worn out and repetitive thoughts

Dreams of everything I’ve pushed away

Or had stolen from me

Memories of lovers bitterly departed

I’m back beyond right where I started

And the meaning of love escapes me

Lost in city traffic

I’m perfectly still

Maybe someday I’ll understand

Maybe I’ll be caressed by a guiding hand

A kaleidoscope of memories cascading from Heaven

Or surely Hell?

More tears well up from every echo of memory of you

Is my heart merely a toy, of which you’re easily rid?

Am I just back now where I started?

You swept away my defences

I’m helpless to your selfish power

My castles of confidence easily crumble before your cruel beauty

The sweet taste of you, corroded and acidic

I’m alone in the smothering dark

Right back where I started

And the meaning of love escapes me

Lost in city traffic

I’m perfectly still

Maybe someday I’ll understand

Maybe I’ll be caressed by a guiding hand

The End
