Resting in the Sand

In dedication of our boys in Afghanistan.

Coarse, hot sand,

Littered with the lives of many.

All around us is pain,

A pain we can no longer share.

Once we lived breathed and fought,

Only to have that which we held dear taken from us.

Once we shared those foolish hopes,

But now we hope no more.

More and more join our ranks,

The young and eager and the old and defeated.

Now equal under our banner,

All will suffer no more.

We are the dead,

Who fought for a cause not our own.

We are the dead,

Who fought for a better life.

We are the dead,

Resting in the sands.

The End
