quiet settles over us like a fogMature

Quiet settles over us like a fog - our skin still sensitive to the touch,
a tremble still in our legs - we spill onto the couch and stare at the ceiling.
Words melt into the silence and I don’t miss them.
Time crumples under the pressure, lets out one last tick of the second hand,
vanishes in a puff of smoke beneath the couch cushions.
We are nestled like a pair of doves, mated for life like foxes,
clutching each other’s hand like otters floating down the river.
I breathe you in, I exhale you out, my eyelids flutter
and the quiet swallows me.

The End
