alternate realityMature

In an alternate reality
you fell in love with me in a laundromat -
around stacks of clothes and
haphazardly folded underwear,
you sank pleasantly into all the tiny observations
of a stranger and then a not-so-unfamiliar friend.
Maybe you mused over
my chipping nail polish and
stunted laugh, or maybe the way
I mumble to myself when I’m alone -
as if to say, no, I’m not lonely,
I am just used to having someone near me.

The End
